Finding a Job Doesn’t Have to Feel Like Dating
For better or worse, many people feel that finding a job is like dating. For the most part, I tend to agree. Think about it: you spend much time and effort searching and applying to different jobs, you dress up and try to make a good impression during the interview, and then you wait for the interviewer to get back to you.
Sometimes you’ll be granted another interview, other times you’ll be rejected, and still other times you won’t hear back at all. On the rare occasion, you’ll find a mutual attraction and move forward.
Starting to sound familiar? While there are many parallels between finding a job and finding a soulmate, it doesn’t have to be this way. We’ll show you how finding a job can be a much more different – and pleasing, experience.
Stop Waiting Around
According to a study by Jobvite, the average job search takes over six weeks. The majority of that time is spent waiting to hear back from employers. Imagine if you could hear back from employers in less than a day, regardless if you were selected for the position. How much time would that save you?
Get Straight to Business
Even if employers are interested in you, sometimes they may take a while to get back to you. It can take a few weeks for an employer to schedule an interview with you after they’ve received your application, and another week or two for them to get back to you after the interview. You may send a follow-up email or two to see if they’re still interested but for all you know, their inbox might be a black hole.
